Why the Institute Exists
Law is everywhere. Understanding it isn't.
The Vel Xenon Legal Information Institute exists to make legal and economic relationships easier to see, inspect, distinguish, and verify.
Its premise is simple: legal information can be accurate without being inaccessible.
Statutes, cases, contracts, trust instruments, deeds, business records, regulations, and financial documents frequently use specialized language because precision matters.
But access to the words does not necessarily create access to understanding.
The Institute translates without pretending translation replaces the governing source.
New Yorkers already understand systems of lines, stations, transfers, neighborhoods, direction, boundaries, entrances, exits, and connections.
A station can connect to several lines without becoming those lines.
This is why legal concepts are presented as stations and relationships as routes.
The permanent public artwork at 14 St–8 Av is the work of Tom Otterness. The Institute does not claim authorship of, ownership of, or endorsement by the artist or the work.
New York is a field-learning environment. The permanent public artwork encountered in the subway includes representations of money, labor, class, commerce, and ordinary urban life.
The artwork is the artist's work. The questions are ours.

The city gives us something to inspect. The sources tell us what the law is.
Sci-Finance™ is an authored analytical and educational framework of the Institute, visibly distinct from governing law.

What is the purpose of the arrangement?
What is the subject matter?
A framework for asking better questions about a relationship before selecting or assuming a legal or financial structure.
Transactions, institutions, documents, businesses, trusts, properties, and relationships often contain legally distinct components.
Identifying those components can prevent nearby concepts from being mistakenly merged.
It also concerns who explains, creates, interprets, records, owns, operates, participates in, and benefits from institutions and economic relationships.
